Border collies are known for their unique white coat, which is the result of an X-linked recessive gene. They were first developed on the border between England and Scotland, hence their name. Border collies need a lot of exercise and are great family dogs because they enjoy playing with children, but can be protective against strangers who get too close to their family unit.
